Daily maintenance is limited to a minimum and should only be done when the wood-burning stove is cold.
At least once a year, you should thoroughly maintain/clean your wood-burning stove and inspect wear parts.
We also recommend that the wood-burning stove undergo a thorough, preventive service inspection by a service fitter at least once every two years.

Below you can see how to best maintain your wood-burning stove:

Guide for maintenance

Cleaning the (outside) surface of the wood-burning stove
Using a small nozzle with soft brushes, vacuum the outside of the wood-burning stove, or dust it off with a dry, soft cloth or a duster. Do not use water, ethanol or any kind of detergent as this will damage the enamel. Any scratches or damage to the enamel can be repaired with a repair kit (senotherm spray and sandpaper), which can be purchased from your retailer.

The glass door
The glass door is equipped with an air wash system to reduce the amount of soot on the glass. A living substance, soot may build temporarily on the glass during combustion and then disappear. Use damp paper towel dipped in ash to remove any remaining soot on the glass. Now wipe with a clean, dry paper towel. Never use household cleaners, as residues from these can burn on the glass. You can also buy glass rinse products suitable for wood-burning stoves from your local retailer.
We recommend that you always wipe the glass clean before starting a fire. This will give you the best experience of the flames.

Emptying the ash pan
Make sure that the ash pan is never too full. An empty or half-empty ash pan provides better circulation of the combustion air.
Do not removed the ash until the wood-burning stove has cooled off completely. Please note that there may be embers in the ashes up to 24 hours after the fire has gone out!
It is easy to empty the ash pan. Pull a garbage bag over the pan, turn it upside down and then gently pull it out of the bag again. Some of our wood-burning stove models have a lid for the ash pan right under the ash pan itself. Put the lid on the ash pan before carrying it away. Ash can be disposed of as household waste.

Thorough cleaning and inspection
Before you start cleaning the wood-burning stove, turn the adjustment knob to minimum to prevent soot and ash from entering the combustion system.
  • Clean away ash and soot from the combustion chamber
  • Check the air gaps in the door frame for any ash and soot particles
  • Check if ash has accumulated behind the baffle plate and in the ash pot.
  • HWAM stoves with HWAM® Autopilot™: Check that the bimetallic spring behind the baffle plate is intact and fully functional.
  • Use copper grease to lubricate hinges and locking fastenings
  • Check for cracks in the combustion chamber insulation material
  • Check that the gaskets in the door and ash pan are intact and soft so that they seal tightly

Gaskets in door and ash pan
The door and ash pan are kept tight by means of gaskets to avoid the intake of any false air. Gaskets should be soft and intact. After prolonged use, they may become hard and less functional. Therefore, keep an eye on the gaskets and replace them if they are worn or come loose. If false air penetrates into the combustion chamber, it may be difficult to control the combustion with a risk of overheating and soot formation.
Gaskets that fit your stove model can be purchased from your local retailer.

Wood-burning stove insulation stone
The stove's effective but porous insulation stone (also called Vermiculite / Skamolex) in the combustion chamber can become worn and damaged over time.
Surface cracks in the insulation stone will have no impact on the efficiency of the wood-burning stove. In case of deeper cracks, however, the insulation stone must be replaced, as this could lead to the penetration of false air, and secondary air may be distributed incorrectly in the combustion chamber. Likewise, the insulation stone should be replaced if there are holes in it, if it falls off in pieces, or if it has been reduced to less than half its original thickness due to wear and tear.
Insulation kits that fit your stove model can be purchased from your local retailer.
