HWAM: a greener stove

You can have a clear conscience when you light a HWAM stove as burning wood is a CO2-neutral process. This is because the CO2 bound in the wood is simply returned to the global cycle again and the amount released is no greater than it would be if the wood lay on a forest floor and decomposed naturally.

The greatest environmental hazard is caused by incorrect combustion in your stove – but we have this under control! It is very easy to achieve optimum combustion with a HWAM stove. All you have to do is use the right amount of dry wood and HWAM automatic™  will ensure a constant, suitable air supply and optimum combustion. Simple and convenient and, first and foremost, easy on the environment. In other words, we are under an obligation when we say: HWAM – intelligent heat.

HWAM's environmental consideration

At HWAM, we are licensed under the Nordic Ecolabel. This obliges us to constantly make our stoves more efficient and environmentally friendly. Automatic™ from HWAM is a good example of this obligation and efficiency.

HWAM automatic™ is a small spring that automatically regulates the air supply for combustion and means that a stove burns wood up to 30% more efficiently in relation to a HWAM stove without HWAM automatic™. This cleaner combustion reduces environmental impact to a minimum and therefore protects the environment because it reduces resource consumption and produces less smoke and particulate matter.

All HWAM stoves are equipped with automatic™, which has been tested, documented and patented under the name HWAM automatic™. This means you can light your HWAM stove with a clear, green conscience.

(Read more about automatic™ here).

What is necessary in order for a stove to bear the Nordic Ecolabel?

The Nordic Ecolabel documents that a stove satisfies a large number of requirements, all of which are connected with the product's environmental impact. Requirements, it should be noted, that have been tightened up in relation to environmental legislation in general.

An example that can be mentioned is that the Nordic Ecolabel's limit on particulate matter emission is 5 grams per kilogram of wood burned, while the limit in the Danish government's draft of an executive order on wood-burning stoves allows up to 10 grams of particulate matter emission per kilogram of wood burned.

It is not sufficient for an Ecolabelled stove to comply with rigorous limits on air pollution and the emission of unhealthy particulate matter, carbon monoxide and carbon. It must also burn fuel very efficiently, must be accompanied by an instruction book with information on how to use it correctly and finally, it must naturally also comply with rigorous demands on the materials it is made of.
